COMMSLOGIC DATACOM CONULTANCY IS BORN

By CBR Staff Writer

A new data communications consultancy, CommsLogic Ltd, has been set up by financial and property company James Ferguson Holdings Plc as the first company in its planned computer services division to carry out project manangement, feasibility studies, turnkey systems and product testing. Based in Egham, Surrey, the company is targetting the City, government and defence in the first instance. There are still enormous communications problems in the City, which have resulted from Big Bang, says sales director Gareth Wokes. The consultancy aims for at least UKP3.5m within three years and employ some 70 people within the same time frame. Its claim is to objectivity in the sense that it has no products or bias of its own to push and it intends to recruit consultants to cover the whole range of communications, rather than specialising in any one area. It aims to work with and eventually against some of the big communications consultancies such as Pactel, Logica, CAP and BIS Macintosh. It will also work with large companies on project management and says it is talking to British Telecom. It will have its own test laboratory for small communications systems and has so far recruited five consultants covering areas from IBM communications to Open Systems Interconnection and claims to have two contracts in the retail area in hand. CommsLogic is managed by ex-managing director of ICL 2900 software house Systemsolve Ltd, John Stanley, who sold his stake there last year. Technical director Hugh Woodsend was responsible for Thorn EMI’s automated house project, and sales director Gareth Wokes is from Lynwood Computers.
