Other new backers for the project, which was launched in June 2004, include Aplix, Axalto, Infineon Technologies, Siemens, SmartTrust, SurfKitchen, Texas Instruments, Turkcell, and Mobile Innovation.

The OMTP was founded by eight leading mobile network operators with the intention to map out specifications for future handset software to enable a consistent user experience across terminals while allowing operators to customize their offerings.

OMTP’s membership is composed of mobile operators with support from a number of technology vendors. Members include Amena, SFR Cegetel, Hutchison 3G, KPN, mmO2, NTT DoCoMo, Orange, Smart Communications, Telecom Italia Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, Telenor, T-Mobile, and Vodafone.

Existing technology sponsors and advisers include Danger, Esmertec, Freescale Semiconductor, Insignia, Motorola, Nokia, STMicroelectronics, Philips Electronics, SavaJe Technologies, Sky MobileMedia, Sun Microsystems, Tao Group, and TTPCom.
