Integration between firewalls and content inspection tools could improve with the introduction of a common API. Aventail Corp, Check Point Software Technologies Ltd, Finjan Software Ltd, Microsoft Corp, Stardust Forums Inc and Symantec Corp have joined to create a Common Content Inspection (CCI) API. The interface could help make firewalls, antivirus software, Java and ActiveX security tools play nicely together and with web blocking software. Rather than creating a new API from scratch, the companies are using as starting points Check Point’s Content Vector Protocol API, Finjan’s Content Examination Library and Microsoft’s ISAPI. Coalition members reviewed a draft of the API at the iBand bandwidth management conference, which was held in San Jose, California this week. รก
