Alameda, California-based Command Technology Corp has come out with Version 2.0 of its SPF/2 personal computer version of IBM Corp’s mainframe-based Interactive System Productivity Facility/Program Development Facility. SPF/2 enables mainframe programmers to work on the micro without having to learn a new program and Version 2.0 offers better performance, and new functions over and above the capabilities of the mainframe program. Significant new features with this version include support for MS-DOS on 80386 machines; transparent EBCDIC file editing by configuring the file profile; Cut & Paste using the Presentation Manager Clipboard for OS/2 users; multi-directory file selection lists with text search capabilities; compiler error message support; expanded printer set-up with page size, margins, headers and footers, file name and date, time and page number; additional directory-list commands and block versions of commands such as move, copy, rename and exclude; text highlighting for program source comments in several languages; word jump and 3270 reset for further 3270 compatibility; enhanced macro support including an exit macro and macro access to Productivity Facility key definitions; and over 30 more new features. SPF/2 2.0 needs OS/2 or MS-DOS 3.1 with an 80386 and a minimum of 2Mb. It is compatible with Microsoft Corp’s Windows and Presentation Manager and sells for $300; users of any previous version of SPF/2 or SPF/PC can upgrade to the new one for $50 with proof of licence until the end of the year.
