Brilliant will stick around as vice chairman of the Cometa board and chair of its technical advisory committee, the company said. A spokesperson did not return a call for comment why Brilliant was replaced after just four months on the job.

Weis was also CEO of Concert, the failed joint-venture between ATT and BT Group Plc, which came to a messy end last April after just over two years of discord between the two companies. He has also held positions at IBM, Cometa said.

Cometa’s ambitious goal of creating a network of initially 20,000 hot-spots, or 802.11 wireless internet access points, recently went into its first pilot in New York city with the McDonalds fast food restaurant chain.
