The ill wind of overcapacity in the semiconductor industry is blowing some good the way of Comdisco Inc, which says the downturn has had the reverse effect on its electronics group, making it one of its key growth areas for fiscal year 1997 which began this week. The reason is that the new group helps chip manufacturers manage their equipment costs by leasing new or refurbished equipment, among other things, and as the semiconductor industry has fallen victim to overcapacity, many manufacturers are looking for cost-effective ways to upgrade their manufacturing equipment, executive vice-president Nicholas Pontikes assured Reuters.
