Comdisco Inc is allowing long-distance telephone service reseller Phoenix Network Inc to use the lines it has leased for its disaster recovery operations, and soak up some of the spare capacity. Phoenix will use the capacity in the build-out of its own nationwide long-distance network, using primarily Comdisco’s transmission facilities on terms that allow Phoenix to acquire capacity at prices substantially below prevailing prices offered by other private line providers. Comdisco will be paid mostly in Phoenix Network shares, so that Phoenix can build its own nationwide switched network without having to make the capital expenditures normally associated with such a project.
