Collaborative web site launched for open source BI

Open source reporting firm JasperSoft Corp has launched a new web site that offers free development and knowledge-sharing tools for its business intelligence software.

By CBR Staff Writer

Called JasperForge.org, the site provides collaborative tools for building, customizing, and deploying open source reporting software. To encourage the sharing of ideas and knowledge transfer, the site also hosts a discussion forum and a wiki. Free version control, issue-tracking, and project-monitoring tools are also provided.

Project space at the centralized site is also available free to any open source community project that is relevant to JasperSoft BI. Private project space is available for JasperSoft partners.

JasperSoft, which is headquartered in San Francisco and venture-backed, is developing a broad suite of BI tools under its JasperIntelligence architecture. Version 1 of the architecture, which was unveiled last month, now includes enterprise reporting (JasperReports) and OLAP (JasperAnalysis, based on the Mondrian project) tools.

JasperSoft has also released a server-based version of JasperReports that offers production-grade report deployment capabilities.

JasperSoft’s open source BI software has already surpassed 1 million downloads and boasts 10,000 corporate deployments in 200 countries worldwide.

Barry Klawans, CTO for JasperSoft, also pointed to 30 open source projects and dozens of commercial applications and services that are being developed today around JasperReports. We decided to build JasperForge.org to bring everything together in one location, he said. He said the company plans to release a data integration, ETL, tool later this year to round out the BI suite.
