PowerPC start-up and NeXT Computer Inc spin-out PowerHouse Systems Inc, Menlo Park, California, has bowed to pressure from Ottawa-based Cognos Inc and dropped the PowerHouse name after failure to agree on its use. Cognos had objected as it brands its products Powerhouse (CI No 2,387). PowerHouse Systems becomes FirePower Systems and says it has moved introduction of its desktop PowerPC boxes forward from the first quarter of 1995 to next quarter. It will offer the same operating systems as IBM Corp’s Power Personal Systems unit, including AIX, Windows NT and Solaris, on systems costing from $3,000 to $6,000.
