Ottawa, Canada-based Cognos will resell Informatica’s Data Quality and Data Explorer software, which is based on technology acquired last year from Irish company Similarity Systems.

Data quality will now be included as part of Cognos’s CPM suite. Cognos is also setting up associated data quality professional services teams to help with implementation of the software in CPM environments. The services are grounded on a data quality assessment summary that comprises quality reports, best practices, and recommendations.

Both companies will also work together in the field on sales and marketing, offering joint customers with broader data integration capabilities.

Cognos and Redwood, City-California-based Informatica have shared a longstanding relationship for data warehousing, centered on Informatica’s PowerCenter extract, transform, and load platform.

Cognos has lacked a data quality offering of its own, unlike arch rival Business Objects, which acquired Firstlogic in February 2006 for $96m, a month after Informatica bought Dublin-based Similarity for $55m. It did however acquire data-integration software from UK-based Relational Matters in 1999, but the software has been languishing in Cognos’s portfolio since then.
