COFIRA UNIT CUTS ITS ANALOGUE CELLULAR CHARGES IN FRANCE

By CBR Staff Writer

The Societe Francaise de Radiotelephonie of Groupe Cofira, whose analogue mobile phone network covers 90% of the French population, has reduced its monthly analogue tariff in seven regions by 28% and has created Groupe Speciale Mobile tariffs modulated according to the hour of the call. We have observed that in the provinces, 70% of the traffic was local, said Paul-Louis Girardot, managing director of Cofira, in an interview with Les Echos. The societe is counting on 1992 revenues of $200m on which it sees a small profit, and 105,000 analogue subscribers by the end of the year. France Telecom on the other hand now has 320,000 subscribers for its Radiocom 2000 analogue network.
