The Grand Old Man of Japanese consumer electronics, Akio Morita, co-founder and chairman of Sony Corp, resigned on Friday in the wake of the stroke he suffered a year ago: executives at the company said the resignation was prompted by concern that it was not good for an international company to have a chairman incapacitated by failing health.
