CMOS ASICs: CDC TO BUY VTC

By CBR Staff Writer

Control Data Corp has signed to acquire VTC Inc, specialising in applications-specific CMOS chips and radiation-hardened products, for an undisclosed amount. Control Data already holds preferred stock in the firm that is convertible into a 49% stake, and the agreement will increase its ownership to 100%. VTC, founded in 1984, had sales of $36m in 1986, and projects turnover of $47m this year. It will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of CDC under its existing management. VTC, Bloomington, Minnesota, is in process of completing a new advanced wafer fabrication facility.
