Club Internet, the Internet service provider owned by Lagardere Groupe, announced that it will launch a personalised Internet for its subscribers. At the same time that CompuServe Inc and America Online Inc have announced quarterly losses in the US, Club Internet, with 17,000 members, wants to combine the freedom of Internet with the user-friendliness of a proprietary service, says Fabrice Sergent, director-general of Grolier Interactive Europe, Lagardere’s multimedia subsidiary. Beginning in January, Club Internet subscribers will get a new version of the Internet service provider’s software that will enable them to choose the sites they are most interested in. Club Internet is the first Internet service provider to base its strategy on a personalised [Internet] interface, Sergent said. The group, which aims to have 20,000 users by year-end, says a recent market study by Paris-based TMO Consultants showed it the third-largest Internet service provider in France, after CompuServe and Microsoft Network.
