VMware has come out all guns blazing with a number of product launches, including a cloud object storage service.
Named vCloud Air Object Storage, this can be based on either Google’s public cloud or EMC’s ViPR as a private option.
The technology will store objects in buckets in a flat namespace that uses object addressing technology that doesn’t require RAID data protection.
According to a blog post from the company, the service will be able to support large objects, up to 20TB, with customers being able to create up to 1,000 buckets and unlimited objects per bucket.
Continuing on the cloud front, the company has been showcasing technology that moves working computing jobs between private and public clouds.
Dubbed "Project Skyscraper", the goal is to enable customers to extend their data centre to the public cloud and vice-versa by operating across boundaries.
The live migration between clouds would undoubtedly make life a lot easier for people; however, it is unlikely to be seen in use on a large scale for a while, as the company seeks to gain better traction with its vCloud Air technology.
With the company pushing products at VMworld, it has also looked to get closer to delivering the software-defined data centre.
EVO SDDC, a revamped version of the EVO: RACK, is designed to run both software and hardware in a software-defined data centre. The overall goal for the company is to make building and operating private clouds as easy as public.
VMware, said SDDC, is an: "automation engine that will simplify and significantly reduce the time required for power-up, provisioning, and monitoring of virtual and physical resources, including software, servers, top-of-rack and spine switches."
Working around VMware’s environment of products, CloudPhysics is extending its analytics SaaS solution so that VMware users can spot and eliminate operational hazards that could threaten IT operations.
Using the analytics functions, administrators will be able to see insights that identify misconfigured infrastructure, which the company’s solution can help fix.
