Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and General Electric (GE) have formed an alliance to expand the industrial internet through digital reimagination.

As a new member of the GE Digital Alliance Program, TCS will use GE’s cloud platform for the Industrial Internet, Predix, to develop innovative digital solutions to increase the productivity of mobile workforces and assets in motion.

TCS has already developed new IoT solutions including Satellite Image Analytics, Supply Chain Monitoring, Prognostic Maintenance and Engine Telematics on the Predix platform.

The company claims that it already has the largest pool of experts trained on the platform. TCS will train over 1000 additional developers on the platform in 2016.

GE Digital head of global channels and alliances Denzil Samuels said: "With the launch of the GE Digital Alliance Program, we are providing alliance members with expanded access to GE Digital tools, technologies and domain expertise.

"The new alliance programme is also designed to take us to the size and scale required to truly drive unprecedented growth, as well as certifying thousands of developers, implementers and consultants to give us the largest ecosystem of qualified technical capacity."

TCS vice president Anupam Singhal said: "We see great opportunities in leveraging our global industry expertise and assets, enriching GE’s Predix platform to drive favorable business outcomes for customers."

A study by TCS has revealed that IoT investment will increase by 20% to $103m in 2018.

Looking across 13 countries, the study found that 79% of companies use the IoT to track their customers, products, the premises in which they do business with customers, or their supply chains.

Last month, TCS launched its Digital Reimagination Studio in Santa Clara, California, to help customers and partners rapidly ideate bold new innovations and build industry changing concepts.

The facility brings a start-up culture to large enterprise clients, expanding TCS’ existing footprint in Santa Clara by using the creative, design, engineering, and business domain experts.

It allows customers to maximise the benefits of digital technologies through rapid product prototyping in Silicon Valley style garages and workspaces that foster creativity and extremely agile collaboration.
