SAP turns to IoT to transform process automation

Work aims to produce solutions for the automatic creation of digital twins.

By James Nunns

SAP is making a big push with partners to increase the levels of process and factory automation for Internet of Things solutions.

The German ERP company says that it is “activating the network” for its Asset Intelligence Network, which is designed to offer a single global register of model and equipment with a cloud platform in order to connect multiple business partners for collaboration.

Within the network, which is run off the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, the company is collaborating with partners to work on solutions for connected asset lifecycle management, track and trace, and the IoT for the process industry.

The company said that new offerings coming from this work will be aimed at addressing things like the on-boarding of devices and the automatic creation of digital twins, which it says will help to create more cost-effective asset performance and strategy management for its customers.

Alongside its work in enabling more IoT creations, SAP also announced the general availability of a citizen engagement offering that works with its Hybris offering. The aim of which is to help government organisations to deliver omni-channel citizen services.

Developed with UXC Oxygen, a consulting and services firm for SAP in Australia and New Zealand, the solution is said to bring services to people through a single, unified user interface that allows people to navigate easily.

Users will be able to access documents such as payments, permits and registrations in the areas of social services, tax and revenue management, and civic services.

Matthias Goehler, SVP of industry solutions for SAP Hybris, said: “The digital economy has impacted the way consumers engage with brands, and the same applies for interacting with government agencies.”

Interest around SAP is currently high and to highlight that HPE last week launched a managed service SAP offering called Enterprise Solutions on Demand.
