Salesforce Health Cloud goes beyond medical records to improve patient service

Solution will offer a complete view of the patient from numerous data sources such as wearables.

By CBR Staff Writer

Salesforce has unveiled a patient relationship management solution, Salesforce Health Cloud, which goes beyond health records to provide integrated data from such sources as electronic medical records (EMRs) and wearables for better patient care.

Salesforce Health Cloud is based on the company’s Service Cloud and is expected to provide complete details of the patient’s demographic, lifestyle and health information to better serve medical needs.

The cloud-based solution will help healthcare workers to manage patient data in a better way, engage with them across their caregiver networks and make smarter care decisions.

According to Salesforce, healthcare IT is shifting toward the patient experience, with next generation devices like FitBits and health based iOS and Android apps resulting in patient demand to provide tech-savvy ways of managing care.

Around 71% of millennials expect their doctors to provide a mobile app to manage their health, while 63% want to provide their health data from wearables to their doctors.

Salesforce Health Cloud will help healthcare workers with patient information in Health Cloud’s Timeline view, which enables them to understand the progression of a patient’s health journey. It will also include a Patient Caregiver Map that will provide details of the specialists involved in a patient’s care.

The cloud based solution also features ‘Today screen alerts’ where caregivers will be able to browse tasks matched to individual patients. The solution also features an internal social networking tool, ‘Salesforce Chatter’, that allows care coordinators to review internal conversations taking place around selected patients.

With the Health Cloud, caregivers will be able to send messages to patients’ smartphones directly.

Healthcare providers can also use certain tools to facilitate their adherence to their compliance requirements from the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Salesforce Healthcare and Life Sciences general manager Joshua Newman said: "Just like we use precision medicine to target more personalized treatments for cancer and other diseases, precision healthcare is enabling our customers to develop more meaningful, accurate and long-term relationships with patients.

"Health Cloud is a huge step forward in our industry’s transformation."
