Oracle adds voice to Sales Cloud mobile app

Ninth release of cloud product targets sales reps on the go.

By Jimmy Nicholls

Oracle has added voice recognition to the latest release of its mobile sales app, allowing users to update their notes, diaries and contact book without typing.

North American users of Oracle Sales Cloud will be able to enter data into their phones after updating to the ninth release of the software, with the software vendor targeting sales representatives who spend a significant amount of time out of the office.

Alan Fothergill, VP of applications development at Oracle, said: "Mobile smart phones and tablets are quickly becoming the leading devices for interacting with enterprise applications, and Oracle has led the way through our broad set of mobile apps."

"Working with [voice recognition specialists] Nuance, we are also leading the way in using speech interfaces to make it easier and more natural to interact with enterprise solutions."

A study by the firm found that four-fifths of Oracle sales reps said that Voice exceeded their expectations for productivity and usability, though it did not quantify how low these were in the first place.

The company also claims that users do not require any training to use the technology, having trialled it on their own sales staff and users of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) software Fusion.

"We wanted to be sure that the user experience is seamless, works well on mobile devices, and is easy for all sales reps to use," said Kate Fitzgerald, group VP of sales automation at Oracle.
