Office 2016 September release set for cloud & mobile focus

Microsoft is aiming to improve collaborative working in the new release.

By James Nunns

Microsoft is set to release Office 2016 this month with a number of changes expected, as the company modernises for the cloud and mobile era.

The latest iteration of the popular Microsoft product is set to include tools that will help to enable users to share documents and to collaborate. This will include the ability to allow multiple users to simultaneously co-edit documents or to sync files to the cloud.

This idea isn’t particularly new with companies like Google offering its Google Docs app for users to work collaboratively in the cloud world.

Set to be released on the 22nd September, Office 2016 will enable OneDrive attachments in Outlook to help format across multiple devices.

Both Office 365 Personal and Home users will be able to start installing the 2016 apps as soon as it launches and automatic updates are expected in October.

The company said on its website: "We’ve also addressed a number of the other top IT requests in Office 365 ProPlus, including deployment support for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to help control network traffic when deploying updates and new reports on Office activation and usage available in the Office 365 admin portal.

"Beyond the new deployment and management options, the new Office also adds support for Data Loss Prevention across the Office 2016 apps, Multi-factor Authentication and other mission critical control capabilities."
