Mirantis joins Cloud Foundry Foundation

Pure-play OpenStack company will join Cloud Foundry Foundation in mid May.

By

The Cloud Foundry Foundation announced today that Mirantis has become its latest member.

The pure-play OpenStack company will partner with distribution vendors in the Cloud Foundry ecosystem, instead of building its own Cloud Foundry distribution.

Cloud Foundry is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) open source project, an area that IDC forecasted to grow by 27 percent annually from 2013 to 2018.

Analyst enterprise 451 Research predicted OpenStack revenue to hit $3.3 billion by 2018. Currently, there are hundreds of deployments and thousands of developers across the globe using the open source cloud software project.

The new set of members, including Mirantis, will join the Cloud Foundry Foundation on the 11th and 12th May at the Cloud Foundry Summit in Santa Clara, California.

The event will be an independent forum to accelerate and advance the Cloud Foundry open source project and help the community set its agenda for the year.

It will bring together more than 1500 application developers, IT operations experts, technical managers, business leaders, service providers and project contributors.

Alex Freedland, co-founder and chairman at Mirantis, said: "As the pure-play OpenStack company, Mirantis is focused on making OpenStack the best way to build a private cloud and enable software development.

"Part of that vision is making it as simple as possible to deploy and manage technologies higher ‘up the stack’ – like Cloud Foundry, which has become a very popular PaaS for developer productivity on top of OpenStack.

"We believe that OpenStack serves the market best by supporting the most popular PaaS solutions and giving enterprise customers maximum choice, rather than prescribing a specific PaaS."

Sam Ramji, CEO of Cloud Foundry, said: "Mirantis and the OpenStack community are doing important work at the infrastructure level of the stack.

"We’re looking forward to their contributions to optimise OpenStack and Cloud Foundry and empower developers to build their applications for the cloud – quickly and easily."
