Microsoft’s Azure Service Fabric enables developers and independent software vendors (ISVs) to build scalalable and customised cloud services the company said in a blog post.
The firm said Service Fabric is capable of understanding the needs of applications and available infrastructure resources, provides automatic updates and has self-healing behaviours that are important for the delivery of highly available and durable services at hyper-scale.
The service has been in production for more than five years and provides the foundational technology for Azure core infrastructure, Skype for Business, DocumentDB, Azure SQL Database, and Bing Cortana.
Key benefits cited include support for the creation of stateless and stateful microservices capable of complex, low-latency, data-intensive scenarios and scale them into the cloud.
The service can also solve hard-distributed systems problems and provide application lifecycle management capabilities, so that developers do not have to re-architect their applications as usage increases.
Command line support and Visual Studio tooling allow developers to build, test, debug, deploy and update the Service Fabric applications on single-box deployments.
Microsoft previously released Azure App Service, a platform as a service solution for developers to create enterprise-grade web and mobile app experiences.

It also allowed developers to deploy and elastically scale applications in the cloud, and integrate them with SaaS based applications and on-premises resources.
