Larry Ellison, Oracle CTO and chairman, delivered a keynote at the company’s conference, OpenWorld, in which he pointed at competing with Amazon rather than IBM or SAP.
Ellison, said: "We compete with Amazon in cloud infrastructure and never, ever see IBM.
"Our two biggest competitors in the last two decades have been IBM and SAP and we no longer pay any attention to either one; it’s quite a shock. SAP nowhere in cloud, and only Oracle and Microsoft is in every level of the cloud – applications, platform and infrastructure."
Although it may no longer pay attention to its competitors, the company’s partnership with Intel has elements to grab SAP’s in-memory customers.
The 3D Xpoint DIMMS hardware seeks to lure SAP customers, while the Oracle/Intel partnership, called "Exa your power", has also been designed to entice users away from IBM’s Power Systems. It will allow them to conduct a free proof of concept study on migrating to Oracle’s cloud.
Other additions from Oracle came in the form of SaaS products, with two vertical cloud systems being added. One is aimed at manufacturing and the other at e-commerce.
The company’s push in the Big Data space saw it bring out a data preparation tool that is designed to eliminate duplications. It has also brought out a machine learning data discovery system.
