Intel Security FOCUS 15: 5 key take-aways

List: New leadership team, new strategy and real-time intelligence.

1. Strategy Shift

Chris Young and his new leadership team are positioning Intel Security to be at the forefront of cloud security, clearly deciding this is where IT is moving. Young said it was "core" to what his firm is doing.

Their entire new corporate strategy is tied around the mantra of the "the threat defence lifecycle", which sums up a more holistic approach to security, taking in this newly connected world.

 

2. McAfee Endpoint Secuirty 10.x

A new platform that Intel Security says will provide intelligent endpoint protection, thanks to real-time intelligence and threat forensics that communicate and learn from each other. The firm promises fast performance and a collaborative protection framework.

It shares security events, acting against applications, downloads, websites and files as soon as it sees suspicious behaviour, and provides a framework for where teams are using multiple solutions.

 

3. McAfee Active Response

An endpoint threat detection and response tool, managed by the ePolicy Orchestrator. This new tool provides in-depth detail and ongoing investigation and analysis of endpoints, adding to the existing management environment. Insights become part of comprehensive reporting and prioritized alerts and actions via ePO.

This is part of Intel Security trying to encourage a more active approach to security, not just defence.

 

4. Standards support

Intel Security is now supporting both the STIX and TAXII standards, with the aim of improving sharing threat intelligence to boost detection. McAfee Advanced Threat Defense now generates a malware reports in STIX format. The McAfee Threat Intelligence Exchange and McAfee Enterprise Security Manager now take in data in the STIX format from third party products too.

 

5. Updated webgateway

Intel Security has also updated its web gateway as part of its cloud play. "Our primary focus is our web gateway," general manger Chris Young said, "we’ve actually completely re-architecured our webgateway.
