Integrated security play from Cisco promises end to end safety

News: Salesforce and Dropbox cloud platform security upgrades included as Cisco extends Security Everywhere with partners

By Charlotte Henry

Cisco has announced it is extending is Security Everywhere strategy.

It has partnered with Skyhigh Networks and Elastica for its Cloud Access Security product, which gives data security and visibility for cloud based applications. It will prevent the uploading and inappropriate sharing of sensitive data in cloud applications like Dropbox and Salesforce.com.

CAS also increases visibility of the hidden applications that a firm’s employees may be using and bring onto the network, detects malicious behaviour, and sets security policies to align use of applications with a company’s policies.

The Identity Service Engine is now integrated with Cisco’s Mobility Services Engine so that location policies can be enforced, defining access to data in locations to locations as specific as a room.

It also has also extended it pxGrid Partner Ecosystem, working with firms such as Huntsman Security, Hawk Defence. There are now a total of 30 partners in the programme, who can share security telemetry between each other, while a new feature means the ISE can be use to quickly investigate and contain attacks, with the networking acting as an enforcer.

Threat Awareness Service boosts the threat visibility of both inbound and outbound network activity, highlighting any threats that might require closer investigation. Cisco is going to include a basic offering with SMARTnet Total Care Service purchases, or premium services for a yearly subscription.

David Goeckeler, GM, Security Business Group, said: "Our integrated approach minimises security risks and exposure versus point solutions that can leave gaps as they lack a holistic view. Today’s product, solution and services enhancements provide our customers with visibility, protection and control to address a broader cross-section of issues. This will allow them to focus on growing their businesses."
