It is located at the IBM Client Center in Montpellier.

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM has unveiled a new centre in Montpellier, France to offer technical support for developers who work to create applications for big data and high performance computing (HPC).

The company collaborated with Nvidia and Mellanox to set up the POWER Acceleration and Design Center via the OpenPower Foundation co-founded by the three companies.

Situated at the IBM Client Center in Montpellier, the new centre will house technical experts who will advise software developers on how to develop new apps using Mellanox InfiniBand networking offering, Nvidia Tesla Accelerated Computing Platform and IBM’s Power architecture.

The new collaboration between the three firms will create opportunities for software designers to acquire advanced HPC skills and drive the development of new technologies.

IBM vice president of HPC Market Engagement Dave Turek said: "Our launch of this new Center reinforces IBM’s commitment to open-source collaboration and is a next step in expanding the software and solution ecosystem around OpenPOWER.

"Teaming with Nvidia and Mellanox, the Center will allow us to leverage the strengths of each of our companies to extend innovation and bring higher value to our customers around the world."

Mellanox Technologies vice president of marketing Gilad Shainer said: "The new POWER Acceleration and Design Center will help scientists and engineers address the grand challenges facing society in the fields of energy and environment, information and health care using the most advanced HPC architectures and technologies."
