IBM makes apps ready for hybrid cloud

News: Company simplifies ability to deploy apps across multiple cloud environments.

By James Nunns

IBM has developed a cloud platform that allows apps to be built and deployed across public, private and on-premise.

The goal of this is to accelerate the capabilities of hybrid cloud and to reduce the complications of moving apps between cloud environments.

Bluemix Local, is designed with a write once, run anywhere feature that will stitch together existing systems and connect data and APIs into one environment. It also aims to keep apps current across all platforms, behind the clients firewall.

This is significant for organisations in regulated industries such as banking, healthcare and financial services, the company said.

Businesses in these areas must follow strict mandates and internal policies for security, compliance and related to customer data and how it is handled outside of the corporate network.

A feature of Bluemix Local is Relay, which is a patented tethering technology that is designed to ensure that cloud environments are kept current. It does this by enabling enterprises to move apps from on-premises to the public cloud by pushing one button.

Users will also have access to IBM’s open-standards-based catalogue of over 120 services and a consistent management console that simplifies control of the entire cloud platform.
