IBM has acquired cloud-based video services provider Clearleap, marking the sixth planned cloud purchase by it in the last six months.
Based in Duluth, Georgia, Clearleap developed a platform for online video services for HBO, the NFL, Verizon and other content providers.
The company operates data centres in Atlanta; Las Vegas; Frankfurt, Germany; and Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The Big Blue will integrate Clearleap into its platform. The Clearleap platform includes subscription and monetization services, and data centres from which to host digital video assets.
The acquisition will make IBM Cloud the platform to transform video into a source of enterprise data. IBM will offer Clearleap’s video services through its global cloud data centres.
IBM Cloud senior vice president Robert LeBlanc said: "Clearleap joins IBM at a tipping point in the industry when visual information and visual communication are not just important to consumers, but are exploding across every industry.
"This comes together for a client when any content can be delivered quickly and economically to any device in the most natural way."

Last month, IBM acquired Cleversafe to strengthen its hybrid cloud capabilities. Cleversafe holds more than 350 patents in object-based, on-premise storage which are designed to help scale to exabytes of storage.
