Hybrid cloud expansion puts China on IBM’s wish list

News: Bluemix Local made available across China.

By James Nunns

Home to 10% of the entire global population of developers, China is a potentially huge market for cloud players such as IBM.

Increasing its cloud footprint into the market is certainly on Big Blue’s mind with the company expanding the availability of its hybrid cloud capabilities to China.

This is being achieved through the launch of Bluemix Local, a cloud platform that is designed to allow businesses to quickly build and deploy apps across public, private and on-premises environments.

IBM’s expansion into the market area has been made possible through its collaboration with 21Vianet, which provides carrier-neutral Internet data centre services in China, making Bluemix available throughout the country.

Features of Bluemix Local include relay technology that is designed to ensure cloud environments stay current; it does this by instantly syncing updates across environments.

It also offers a private catalogue and API management services so that users can create, publish and manage their own APIs.

In October, IBM became the first US technology company to allow China to review its product source code for identifying security flaws in its software.
