Updates to HP‘s Helion OpenStack and Helion Development Platform solutions, in addition to enhancements to HP Helion Eucalyptus, have been announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress.
Updates to HP Helion Eucalyptus 4.1, the company’s open source solution for building AWS-compatible private clouds, include the AWS Cloud Formation compatible service and HP Helion Eucalyptus Cloud Manager.
The AWS Cloud Formation compatible service provides application deployment templates that streamline service delivery and reduce errors of complex configurations.
By reusing existing AWS Cloud Formation templates, both existing and potential customers can quickly benefit from the new service on their own HP Helion Eucalyptus private cloud.
The HP Helion Eucalyptus Cloud Manager now includes a simple-to-use interface for managing S3 compatible object storage. Users will no longer require separate tools to create, modify and delete buckets, or to upload and download.
HP Helion Eucalyptus 4.1 marks the first Eucalyptus product release under the Helion brand since acquiring the company in September 2014.
The new enhancements to HP Helion OpenStack 1.1 target the reduction of risk and the enhancing of agility. Updates include security automation and configuration enhancements, which includes centralised logging & HP ArcSight integration, and enhanced lifecycle management capabilities with the use of Ceilometer.

Deployment capabilities have also be broadened in HP Helion OpenStack 1.1, offering targeted node provisioning for optimised hardware deployment and new certified hardware in the form of HP ProLiant Gen8 and 9 servers and HP Moonshot m710 and 300.
HP have also enhanced the software defined large-scale storage capabilities, with HP 3PAR StoreServ HA improvements and Ceph integration at the Host Linux Level, in addition to support for Swift object store.
HP Helion Development Platform 1.1 has been updated with easier admin, coming in the form of additional dashboards and improvements to logging. Application rollback & versioning has also been improved in the 1.1 version.
