Hootsuite, IBM to take social to the cloud

Hootsuite's App Directory will be combined with IBM's SoftLayer cloud.

By CBR Staff Writer

IBM and Hootsuite have agreed to integrate their cloud and social technologies to allow clients to make data driven decisions at a faster pace.

As part of the deal, Hootsuite will integrate its App Directory service with IBM’s SoftLayer cloud infrastructure as the two companies expanded their existing partnership.

IBM said App Directory includes extensions and apps that marketers can add to their Hootsuite dashboard for creating custom views of the most important social outlets and metrics.

Hootsuite said the move will provide App Directory with a scalable infrastructure to run on and make it easier for the company to roll out new features and functionality.

The move follows IBM Silverpop’s integration into App Directory, enabling marketers and social media managers to have insights into individuals behavior during interaction with their brand via social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

IBM general manager of cloud ecosystem and developers Sandy Carter said: "IBM and Hootsuite continue to work together to drive the integration of social and cloud to empower clients with the ability to make data-driven decisions quickly and easily."

Hootsuite vice president of operations and IT Aaron Budge said: "IBM Cloud offers high performance, granular control and flexibility.

"When you couple that with its globally integrated footprint, we will have the ability to move data between data centers efficiently which will provide resiliency, flexibility and control."

IBM and Hootsuite will also integrate their higher education outreach programmes.

IBM’s Academic Initiative, which gives academics 12 months access to Bluemix for research, will combine with Hootsuite’s Higher Education Program that intends to provide social media skills.
