Google Cloud boosts business app credentials with SAP tie-up

The partnership will see SAP applications integrated with Google's Cloud Platform and suite.

By Hannah Williams

Google and SAP have joined hands to deliver a strategic partnership that will see them work towards developing and integrating the best of Google cloud and machine learning solutions with SAP’s enterprise applications.

The partnership will offer both Google Cloud and SAP customers more scope, scalability and opportunity to create new products.

This will be delivered with certification of the in-memory database SAP HANA, which is now built into the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and new G Suite integrations. HANA will also feature machine learning capabilities from Google and collaborate on data governance.

The certification of the database enables customers to run mission-critical applications from SAP, as well as databases such as SAP HANA. With the addition of performance enhancements, it will ensure that GCP delivers optimal performance for SAP HANA.

Nan Boden, Head of Global Technology Partners, Google Cloud wrote in a blog post: “Google Cloud is the first public cloud vendor to make SAP HANA express edition available to developers in an on-demand deployment model.”

Also part of the partnership, SAP will make use of Google Cloud’s Launcher Marketplace to offer products to developers and customers, which will begin with an express edition of SAP HANA.

HANA CloudSAP and Google are to also partner for Infrastructure-as-a-Service to lift enterprise cloud applications to the next level, whereby SAP will offer data visibility and custodian capabilities for SAP on GCP.

Finally, the two companies will partner to integrate SAP apps and Google Suite, and together with Gmail and Google Calendar integration, SAP will enable customers to gain the ability to emulate day-to-day business processes to increase user productivity, flexibility and usability.

SAP’s Cloud Platform Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution is now integrated with Google Suite and GCP, allowing customers to connect securely with Google Suit or GCP.
