Google acquires messaging start-up Jibe Mobile

News: The company is working with several of its partners on implementing RCS.

By CBR Staff Writer

Google has acquired messaging startup Jibe Mobile, which builds cloud communications for mobile operators.

Founded in June 2006, Jibe Mobile provides an open end-to-end technology platform allowing carriers to quickly launch new IP communication services to mobile consumers globally.

Google is working to add rich communications services (RCS), a new standard for carrier messaging, to Android.

The company acquired Jibe Mobile as part of its plans to bring RCS to a global audience.

Jibe Mobile customers include US-based Sprint and several European carriers Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone, KPN, and SFR.

The company is headquartered in Mountain View, California, with offices in London and Dusseldorf.

Google said in a blog post, "Jibe is a leading provider of RCS services and they’ll continue helping carriers easily deploy RCS to their users. We can’t wait to work with them and build on the great work that they’ve already done."
