EMC has announced that it is opening the first Cloud Foundry "Dojo", which will be an ecosystem of open API’s and frameworks to be nurtured in the open source community.
The concept is to provide rapid learning and development of applications through a "pairing program". This will put software developers together with Cloud Foundry "gurus" for 6-12 week open source projects that are designed to breed qualified Foundry engineers.
The program is based upon the coding Dojo of Pivotal Labs, which EMC acquired in 2012.
In a statement, EMC wrote: "EMC has a strong interest and equally strong investment in hybrid cloud technology, as we believe it will play a huge role in the end state for IT systems in the not-too distant future."
"But in order for this reality to take shape, an ecosystem of open API’s and frameworks must be nurtured to overcome one of the biggest hybrid challenges -making content and applications portable."
As the word Dojo is typically associated with a martial arts training facility, the implication is that the training will be rough and tough and lead to hardened software developers in the future.
The company is investing $10 million over the next three to five years in order to help train Cloud Foundry developers.

EMC is hoping that the move will see it become a major contributor to the open source community and help to accelerate the industry towards a portable cloud ecosystem.
The Cloud Foundry Dojo is expected to be fully online in the summer.
