EMC tiers storage for hybrid cloud savings

News: Cloud tiering could reduce costs of ownership for customers.

By James Nunns

Searching for a role in the cloud market, EMC is expanding its portfolio of hybrid cloud services.

The company launched capabilities that aim to help customers tier between private and public clouds.

Its strategy to achieve this has been to extend the integration reach of VMAX with enhancements to its FAST.X tiering product.

The benefit of this should be that customers will be able to cut the costs of ownership by being able to automatically tier to public cloud from EMC and non-EMC storage.

Additional enhancements came with CloudBoost 2.0, a solution that can extend existing EMC data protection solutions to scale-out storage.

CloudBoost will now feature improved scalability and performance, the company says it offers 3x faster throughput and 15x more data capacity than previous versions.

Other upgrades include simplified data protection management with the next generation of its NetWorker software. It not offers a universal policy engine that is designed to automate and simplify data protection.

According to the survey, most Dell and EMC customers (60%) are happy with the idea of spending more cash as a combined company. While 65% want more complete and innovative technology solutions.

Although 42% fear a post-merger mess as the two companies organise themselves.
