Dimension Data gears up storage as a service

Pay as you go storage will use EMC's ViPR.

By Joao Lima

Dimension Data will use EMC ViPR and ViPR SRM in its own Managed Service for Storage promising intelligent storage management.

The Managed Service for storage will allow customisation of service catalogues to add storage capacity at a tiered level.

Dimension Data said it will provision storage as needed, with customers being billed solely for the data they use as IT costs will be variable answering business fluctuations.

Steve Joubert, Group Executive at Dimension Data said: "Storage unit costs are declining, but costs rise as much as 35 per cent due to growing application utilisation, compliance, and data protection strategies."

Manuvir Das, VP of Advanced Software at EMC said: "Dimension Data has the expertise to help organisations drive business transformation, and this initiative brings together their services with EMC’s ViPR and ViPR SRM technologies to help clients take full advantage of automated storage services to increase operational efficiencies."
