Dell extends hybrid cloud management to Azure

Cloud Manager extends to support Azure platform.

By James Nunns

Dell latest Cloud Manager release see’s it offer management solutions for Windows Azure Pack and Azure public cloud.

While other public and private clouds are supported, the focus of this update is around Azure and being an independent unified solution to centrally manage combined private and public cloud environments.

Adoption of hybrid cloud models are increasing with companies such as Microsoft with its Azure public cloud teaming up with companies such as Rackspace for private hosting. Dell clearly hopes that its solution can be the glue to knit together management of these services.

IT will be able to use the Cloud Manager to, unsurprisingly, manage cloud resources as well as track usage and spending. Organisations will even be able to estimate cloud costs before they are incurred, helping it to manage budgets.

In addition to Azure, the Cloud Manager supports AWS, Google Compute Engine, Joyent, CloudStack, OpenStack, vSphere and others.

Currently 52% of North American organisations are using two or more public cloud providers, according to Forrester Research.
