A UK start-up offering Data science-as-a-Service has raised $1.2 million as interest rises in avoiding in-house implementation.
Big Data for Humans, the Glasgow and London based company, is planning to use the money to scale up its offering and to expand worldwide.
The appeal of offering Data science-as-a-Service is that in theory it means that customers won’t need to deploy an in-house solution, have their own data science teams or alter their infrastructure.
Other more established companies have been offering similar services to this, such as Blue Yonder and SAS who both offer this service and see it as an important way to solve the skills gap.
With not enough data scientists to go around, a company such as Blue Yonder does the data science leg-work for you.
Big Data for Humans is particularly targeted at retail and travel sectors.

The funding round was led by EC1 Capital, with further investment from Firestartr, Scottish Investment Bank and a group of four Angel investors.
