Cost savings & business efficiency fuelling hybrid cloud adoption

Cloud adoption to rise three times in three years.

By CBR Staff Writer

Hybrid cloud adoption is expected to grow nearly three times in the next three years from 10% to 28%, according to Peer 1 Hosting.

According to a survey on 900 IT decision makers from Canada, North America and the UK, commissioned by Peer 1 Hosting, cost savings and improving business processes are said to be the main the drivers behind the growth of hybrid cloud adoption.

When asked about the top priorities within the organisation, 49% pointed to IT costs and 45% stressed improving processes and operational efficiencies.

Compared to the projected growth in hybrid cloud adoption, on-premise hosting is anticipated to drop from 31% to 17% over the same period, whilst private cloud will drop from 52% to 41%.

Peer 1 Hosting Product vice president Toby Owen said, "The proposition of Hybrid Cloud is very compelling: cost savings, business agility and operational efficiencies are the qualities that IT decision makers are looking to bring into their organisations.

"From the research, it’s clear that hybrid cloud adoption is outpacing that of public and private cloud."

About 53% of those polled believed that security was the main challenge before achieving these priorities, while 46% said that data protection was another challenge.

"Hybrid cloud adoption appears to be held back by concerns largely related to security and data protection. Clearly these are areas where businesses cannot compromise.

"Fundamentally these concerns are about a perceived lack of control. As the industry responds to this, with truly scalable, flexible and controllable hybrid cloud solutions, I believe that IT decision makers will be quicker to adopt hybrid cloud than this research suggests."
