Cloud giants promise greater cloud cost transparancy

CenturyLink and Softlayer sign with Apptio to offer more insight and cost control for cloud services

Apptio has added CenturyLink Cloud and Softlayer to its portfolio of cloud provider billing integrations.

The technology business management company now includes many of the the biggest cloud players in its cost management roster with the new additions joining AWS and Microsoft Azure.

The partner integrations mean that IT leaders can directly source their cloud billing data from the partners with Apptio automating the process to help give a clear view of IT costs, the company said.

David Shacochis, VP, cloud ecosystem, CenturyLink, said: "As a result of our agreement, CenturyLink Cloud and Apptio customers will have a significant analytical advantage over competitors that lack sophisticated cost management capabilities."

"Our joint customers now have access to a detailed understanding of their total cloud investment and how that spending can be optimized to free up resources for innovation around their core differentiators."

It has also released the latest version of its foundational Cost Transparency application, which assists with decision making for IT spending.

The Cost Transparency application updates have improved the analytics functions to help understand the TCO of public and private cloud as well as allowing for deeper analysis across production and non-production environments of hybrid computing.

Ted Kummert, EVP, engineering at Apptio, said: "Public and private cloud investments are becoming one of the fastest-growing and most important segments of IT spend."

"These new integrations allow for out-of-the-box connectors and improved costing capabilities that strengthen our overall cloud competencies and give our enterprise customers an easy way to understand, manage, and optimize their cloud investments."
