Citrix Synergy 2015: 5 key developments

The company has unveiled a Workspace cloud and numerous updates to its ShareFile platform.

By James Nunns

Citrix Synergy is rolling on in Orlando Florida and the company has had plenty to say in the sunshine state.

CBR has compiled a quick roundup of the key developments.

1. Workspace Cloud

This platform is designed to deliver a wide range of IT tools and services, based upon the premise of providing a workspace where Windows apps, web apps, mobile apps, desktops, documents and collaboration come together on whichever device or network is being used.

The cloud based management platform will allow customers flexibility to choose whichever cloud or datacentre resources fit their needs.

Citrix is making the Workspace available to partners and customers to test drive from Tuesday.

2. ShareFile Platinum edition

The platinum edition release is aimed at addressing the need for a solution which goes beyond addressing only mobility needs. This will be available from June and will provide a collaborative workspace to exchange, track, edit and e-sign content without storage limitations.

Building on the collaborative functions in the platinum edition of ShareFile, the company has made it possible to edit any Microsoft Office files from any computer through the platform.

3. Unified System

The company has unveiled its ideas behind changing the IT paradigm through a, "build once, deploy anything" policy.

A vision for a unified system that secures and delivers all applications by scaling and optimising hybrid clouds has been spoken about by the company. This particularly means updates to NetScaler which now has Unified Gateway features to help customers consolidate security and to deliver simplified remote access to business applications.

Along with its developed EMM tech that has an expanded partner ecosystem to help provide stronger security and better user experiences.

4. Data Loss Prevention

DLP is a key concern for many organisations, particularly those in heavily-regulated industries such as financial services and healthcare.

To help ease these concerns, the company has integrated DLP solutions from Symantec and others and will offer the ability to classify items based on their content. Users will also be able to classify items based upon their content and enforce sharing restrictions based on data categories.

5. App delivery and VDI innovations

Enhancements of the XenApp and XenDesktop technologies will enable IT organisations to match each business use case with the best combination of apps and capabilities for the job at hand.

Citrix has combined the Windows app delivery, networking, mobility, cloud delivery and data solutions to help mobilise business through a software-defined workplace.

The company has also integrated Framehawk technologies into HDX in order to provide acceleration technologies that can overcomes challenging network conditions.
