Cisco has launched new cloud scale media experiences to assist content providers in the rapid generation and distribution of more video direct to consumers.

At NAB 2016, the company is unveiling its Media Blueprint, a set of infrastructure and software solutions that is claimed to power cloud scale media experiences and speed up the creation, delivery and monetisation of immersive content.

The solutions of Cisco Media Blueprint allow content providers and broadcasters to produce, store, distribute and secure premium video.

Based on open standards, the platform is supported by several of the media industry’s important software providers.

Cisco has introduced various new solutions for the Media Blueprint that are paired with recently unveiled cloud video and security solutions.

Global media customers including NBC Olympics, CBS News Digital and several others are implementing the solutions.

IP Fabric for Media is optimised for broadcast media production depending on Cisco Nexus switches and SDN Controllers to allow the migration from SDI to IP.

The D9800 Network Transport Receiver is a next-generation platform for the secure delivery of broadcast content from a modular hardware design. It supports a set of applications for primary video distribution.

NFV Infrastructure for Media Data Center is a virtualised data centre platform based on Cisco UCS and OpenStack with optimisations for media applications and workloads.

Infinite Video is a cloud-based over-the-top (OTT) video solution that supports delivery of TV experiences direct to the consumer to a range of devices.

VideoGuard Everywhere security offers digital rights management, media anti-piracy, and authentication for direct-to-consumer experiences across platforms and devices.

The company said the combination of products and solutions allows video deployments across hybrid cloud environments, integrating private cloud, managed services, and Cisco cloud software-as-a-service delivery.

Cisco CTO of engineering, service provider business and chief architect Dave Ward said: "We have designed a media-optimized infrastructure that can help our customers deliver immersive OTT experiences rapidly and securely to multiple devices.

‘With this new approach combining new and existing IP video and cloud solutions, we can offer seamless orchestration of video workflows from an open platform, supporting Cisco and third party functionality."

Earlier this year, Cisco introduced a new network functions virtualisation (NFV) infrastructure solution to help service providers run network services better and faster.
