Certification programs at Cisco are undergoing a major refresh as cloud and the Internet of Things are elevated by the company.

In addition to changes to these certifications, more focus is being placed on network programmability and business transformation.

Network programmability is software-defined networking, while business transformation is about enabling networking professionals to stay up to date with the changing landscape of business.

Changes to the Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert and Design Expert certifications will have a greater focus on the new technology areas.

The idea behind this is to make sure that those certified professionals will be better: "Equipped to participate in meaningful business discussions about these new technical areas that are shaping business strategy and operations."

The Data Centre version of the company’s Internetwork Expert certification will now cover end-to-end management of data centres, aiming at policy-based infrastructure, orchestration and automation and advanced virtualisation.

The final change is to its Network Associate qualification security. The change to this will see an expanded from network security to end-to-end, placing an emphasis on core technologies and skills required for maintaining business information systems.
