CenturyLink acquires cloud-database startup Orchestrate

Orchestrate provides multiple 'flavours' of NoSQL databases.

By CBR Staff Writer

Telecommunications firm CenturyLink has acquired cloud-database startup Orchestrate to expand its Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS)capabilities.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Members of the Orchestrate’s data services team will join CenturyLink’s product development and technology organisation.

Orchestrate co-founder and CEO Antony Falco, CTO Ian Plosker and vice-president of engineering Dave Smith are among those joining the new company.

Orchestrate delivers managed NoSQL databases to address organisations’ problems of running their own instances.

The company offers full-text search, time series, graph and key-value storage via a single API.

CenturyLink CEO and president Glen Post said: "CenturyLink’s customers, like most enterprises, are expressing interest in solutions that help them meet the performance, scalability and agile development needs of large-scale big data analytics.

"The Orchestrate database service’s ease of use and ability to support multiple database technologies have emerged as key differentiators that we are eager to offer our customers through the CenturyLink Cloud platform."

Earlier this year, Orchestrate’s product became deployable via the CenturyLink cloud.

In a blog post announcing the acquisition, Orchestrate co-founder and CEO Antony Falco said: "Under new ownership we will continue to operate and expand our database-as-a-service."

CenturyLink has been acquiring several cloud-acquisition firms, including Cognilytics and DataGardens.
