BT internet bypass offers direct HPE cloud connection

News: BT IP VPN customers can directly connect to HPE's services.

By James Nunns

British Telecom and HPE are partnering to connect customers to Helion Managed Cloud Services.

Direct connectivity will be provided by BT which will allow its IP VPN customers to connect directly to HPE’s services.

The telco will use HPE’s Rapid Connect service which will allow users to bypass the public Internet when connecting to the cloud.

By connecting to the managed cloud services directly, the services can be accessed more securely, both in terms of reliability and security.

BT runs a Cloud Connect portfolio of services which in late September added Microsoft Azure connectivity for Office 365.

The move comes as part of BT’s Cloud of Clouds strategy which has seen the company build up a portfolio of cloud services to directly connect to, such as HPE and AWS.

HPE’s focus may no longer be on competing in the stand alone public cloud market, it is still a strong competitor in the hybrid cloud business, where it has been making its offering capable of supporting AWS and Azure.
