Blue Coat boosts cloud security with Perspecsys buy

The acquisition will enhance security for corporate-approved cloud applications and services.

By CBR Staff Writer

Enterprise security provider Blue Coat Systems has acquired Perspecsys, a company that provides enterprise cloud data protection solutions.

The Cloud Data Protection platform offered by Perspecsys helps organisations that have adopted adopt cloud-based applications to solve the key business risks associated with data compliance, privacy and security.

It uses patented cloud data tokenisation and has encryption capabilities, which makes enterprises become the sole controller of their data.

It also helps eliminate the risks associated with placing sensitive data and helps make the public cloud private.

The acquisition will help Blue Coat to boost its cloud security offerings and will help the company become the market leader in the Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) segment.

Blue Coat will be able to offer industry’s widest range of CASB capabilities within its Secure Web Gateway portfolio.

Both the companies will be able to provide solutions to clients, which will enhance security for corporate-approved cloud applications and services.

Blue Coat highlighted that the adoption of cloud applications by organisations are affected by the data breaches that have been occurring recently.

Blue Coat CEO Greg Clark said: "To gain control over the explosion of cloud application usage, our customers tell us that the proxy is the logical location to implement CASB features and with our historic strength and understanding of web applications it is a perfect fit.

"In summary, Perspecsys’ capability reduces corporate cyber-crime risk.

"Management of data at rest via tokenizing or encrypting is rapidly becoming a critical element of cyber defence for both corporate owned infrastructure and cloud applications."
