Client-server products accounted for half of Computer Associates International Inc’s second quarter revenues of $1.22bn, up 10% from last year’s figure. Income was up 8% to $293.92m over last year. CA claimed another solid quarter, despite a decline in its sequential growth rate from 18% in the first quarter. For the six months, revenues rose 14% to $2.01bn, and income 14% to $488.08m. While its newer Unicenter TNG and client-server businesses showed significant growth, CA says its traditional mainframe businesses is suffering from deferred purchases due to Year 2000 projects, mainframe transition issues and the effects of the Asian economic crisis, Dow Jones reported. CA bought back 15 million shares of its common stock during the quarter, and yesterday announced an extension of the repurchase program. We believe our business fundamentals are strong, CA president and chief operating officer Sanjay Kumar said.
