CLARIION STARS IN DG’S Q1

By CBR Staff Writer

Data General Corp reported first quarter net income of $10.4m, or $0.25 per share, up 121% on the $4.7m it did in the same period last year. However at $348.5m, revenue was only up 6.3% on $327.6m. The company says it’s installed $50m of its 880×0-based ccNUMA AV10000 AViiON servers which it began shipping early 1996. The Clariion storage subsidiary now accounts for more than one third of company’s total revenue; it did over $100m in the quarter. DG says increased volume and the start of the shift to Intel Corp-based product lines resulted in higher margins than in the same period last year. Wall Street gave the numbers a lukewarm reception, marking DG shares up $0.75 on the day at $38.37.
