Apple Computer Inc has put out something of an as-you-were in response to reports of Gil Amelio’s speech in Monterey (CI No 3,033). It says that he spoke about the general future of operating systems, but announced no new operating system strategy for Apple, and that its long-term operating system strategy will be announced by early 1997. Technologies previously worked on in the Copland project will be integrated into future releases of Mac OS, and it is wrong to characterize Apple’s current operating system development efforts as starting from scratch. The odds seem to have hardened on Apple going with BeOS.
