Citrix tools up for self-service enterprise IT

Launches enterprise App Store like tools

By CBR Staff Writer

Citrix Systems Inc has responded to the creeping consumerisation of IT with a series of product launches that it sees as enabling IT shops move towards a self-service IT model.

It has launched Citrix Dazzle, an application that is used to build self-service App Store-like enterprise application storefronts, and Citrix Receiver something it is describing as a “universal software client” for easy access to virtual desktops and applications.

The company said Citrix Dazzle gives corporate employees self-service access to a range of applications, desktops and content, allowing company staff to choose exactly what they need, when they need it.

Dazzle effectively acts as a storefront to an organisation’s existing delivery infrastructure, and represents a major step towards transforming IT into an on-demand service.

It describes Citrix Receiver as a lightweight software client that resides on user devices, like PCs, Macs, and smartphones, and is the self-service user entry point to the Citrix Delivery Center product family.

Much like a satellite or cable TV receiver in a broadcast media service, Citrix Receiver allows IT organisations to deliver desktops and applications as an on-demand service to any device in any location with a rich ‘high-definition’ experience.
